CMI Education Policy Statement

CMI Philosophy of Education

We, the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), following the example of our founder St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, consider education as an integral part of the formation of the human person for the fulfilment of both individual and social responsibilities.

Our educational endeavours aim at forming leaders who are intellectually competent, spiritually mature, morally upright, psychologically integrated, physically healthy, and socially responsible. We strive to nurture individuals who will uphold and promote the values of justice, love, truth, and peace, while remaining open to continuous growth and transformation.

The strength and success of our educational institutions lie in a community of teachers who are deeply committed to their vocation, professionally competent, morally upright, humane in their dealings, culturally sensitive, and dedicated to the true vision of education.

We aspire to create a just and compassionate society where the dignity of every human person is respected, unjust social structures are challenged, and the rich cultural heritage of ahimsa, religious harmony, and national unity is preserved and promoted. We remain especially concerned about the poor, the marginalized, and those in need of care and support.

We believe that education extends beyond the classroom and reaches into the family and society. Therefore, we strive to connect closely with families — especially those of our students — by sharing in their joys and struggles, supporting them in their needs, and helping them experience love, care, and freedom. In this way, our educational institutions become an extension of the students’ homes.

Our institutions are open to all students irrespective of caste, creed, or social background. Every student is accepted with dignity and encouraged to grow in his or her own cultural, social, and religious traditions. At the same time, students are given the opportunity to become acquainted with the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and the values of the Gospel.

As institutions established and administered by a minority Christian community, preference may be given to Christians in admissions and appointments, while maintaining a special concern for the faith formation of Christian youth.

Our institutions also remain open to society at large by making their resources available for ongoing education, formation, and social development.

For the realization of this noble CMI vision of education, we warmly invite students, parents, teachers, and well-wishers to share this vision and cooperate wholeheartedly in building a future rooted in knowledge, values, faith, and service.
